Working with the SAMARCH project on the river Frome, by Nathan Preston, Bournemouth University

I was part of the Electric Fishing team working along the river Frome this summer. The work was very interesting, especially netting the fish! It was fascinating to wade around the Frome and be surrounded by its habitat. I now know a lot more about salmon, trout, and the other wildlife in the Frome than I did before I started this placement. It was especially cool to net and handle the recaptured trout! The people running the placement were lovely to work with and were helpful when I was struggling with tasks. I would recommend this placement to other students!

Back of the net!
